CENTRAL AMERICAN STUDENTS HAVE NEW MBA OPTION
JIU and UCA joint degree emphasizes e-commerce
DENVER (Sept. 1, 2005)– Jones International University® (JIU®) and Universidad Centroamericana (UCA) of Nicaragua have joined forces to offer a Master of Business Administration degree with emphasis on e-commerce.
“This cross-cultural collaboration provides the opportunity for Nicaraguan students to benefit from coursework at UCA’s campus in Managua, while JIU provides the course curriculum for them to complete the degree online,” said JIU President David Leasure. “Our students will graduate with a joint degree, recognized in both countries. We believe this will give the Nicaraguan students a great new option for graduate education in business without leaving their country.”
Universidad Centroamericana was the first accredited private university built in Central America, founded by the Catholic Jesuit order in 1960. It offers a variety of graduate and undergraduate degrees, and its mission is one of commitment to the development of Nicaragua and Central America. Jones International University was the first entirely virtual university in the United States to receive accreditation. JIU offers graduate degree programs in business and education and undergraduate degrees in business administration, education and business communication. JIU students also have access to the Jones e-global library®, the world’s only full-service virtual library, providing online tutorials, research guides, academic and business literature, government publications and research databases.
JIU and UCA will offer the joint masters degree in Spanish. Online, it will be taught by bilingual JIU faculty.
Students in Nicaragua – which does not yet have wide-spread Internet access – will take most of their online classes using UCA facilities.
